Check Scanning

This desktop feature was designed for bookkeepers at retail stores, allowing them to reconcile their checks at the end of their business day. This experience integrates with a check scanner, uses software to automatically fill out form and allows the user to quickly validate the scanned information matches what they see on the checks. This design significantly decreased the amount of time and effort the bookkeepers spent manually typing values into an old, outdated desktop installed application.

Our Process

    Interview Customers

    In order to fully understand what the customer needs, my team and I held interviews, asking them all about their current check scanning processes.

    We learned how time consuming it is to scan each check and manually add each check value in their existing system.

    Collaborate Openly

    Collaboration with others was key to the success of this project. I worked closely with the Product Team, Engineering Architects and other UX Designers to make sure we maintain brand consistency while building an achievable product.

    My colleagues and I mapped out the architecture, found risks, resolved them.

    Adapt as Needed

    Throughout the design process, we learned of multiple unhappy path scenarios and designed them in a way the user would be able to proceed on their own without contacting our technical support hotline.

    Deliver with Confidence

    This project was designed with an iterative approach to development in mind.

    First, we determined where this feature would live, beginning as its own standalone application, but soon evolved into a new feature in an existing application that the bookkeepers already use in their day-to-day work.

    I also led my team to reengineer the existing application in order to support this new feature.
